    What is Chi Kung?

Chi Kung (Qi Gong) is an ancient Oriental Healing Art which is uplifting, easy to learn and suitable for all ages and levels of fitness.

    What does 'chi' mean?
Chi is the Chinese name for the animating life force energy of the body which gives us the power to walk, talk and think. Chi permeates everything, it is in us and around us. Chi Kung means 'Energy Work'.

I am teaching Sheng Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong, Qi Gong and the '8 Pieces of Silk Brocade' with the aim to return the practitioner to be in flow, happy and relaxed. While you do the movements, your body relaxes, which allows chi to circulate freely through your body, improving circulation of blood and lymph. Free circulating chi enables the release of blockages held in the body, which might otherwise lead to disease, headaches, backache, stomach/digestive disorders, etc. On another level, free-flowing chi will help to expel negative feelings like fear, anger or anxiety.

  • I started my passion with Chi Kung in 2002 while looking for therapies helping to de-stress and enhance good health and I am teaching this oriental healing art for many years now.

I am experienced Chi Kung (Qi Gong) teacher, running public classes in London as well as giving private tuition on request. Please contact me for private Chi Kung Tuition, if this is of interest to you. I am happy to discuss your specific needs and how Chi Kung training can help you on the route to recovery or staying healthy and balanced.

I study with Sifu Dr Mark Green in London and I am a member of Martial Arts & Fitness Coach UK.

'I had been suffering from back problems and RSI in my wrists and arms. Some pilates lessons helped build strength in my back but then I reached a plateau. My husband investigated the Chi Kung classes and spoke with Tina about my problems. She thought that Chi Kung would help so I attended the classes over the course of two months. After the first class I noticed an immediate improvement. My arms seemed to benefit enormously from the stretching postures and I believe the increased blood flow also aided healing. Tina was an excellent teacher who took great care over each student. I am leaving the area so will not be able to attend Tina's classes anymore but plan to continue practicing the movements I have learned and to investigate further classes.'

'Last year I was very ill, with a succession of viruses and then ended up in hospital with a bacterial infection which became very serious. I quit my full-time academic post and now work part-time. I started learning Tai Chi with Mark last October but I think it's the Chi Kung, especially the standing meditation that had an enormous impact on my health and my immune system. I try to practice for 20 minutes each day. During the last 18 months I haven't been ill. The first time for years that I haven't had flu or a virus. I find the teaching very thorough, considered and inspirational.'

I have enjoyed coming to the Chi Kung classes at St Mark's. The space is relaxing and Tina's classes have improved my circulation, my physical strengths and flexibility and my breathing. I have also noticed a reduction of stress after each class. I recommend anyone to try it. Tina's method is gentle and consistent.'

I was diagnosed with Parkinsons' ten years ago. It's been difficult to find the right kind of exercise - something that didn't exacerbate my bad back or exhaust me, but would keep me moving and be enjoyable. Chi Kung has been exactly that.

First of all, it really does seem to loosen the joints and stretch the ligaments and muscles which is so important for people with Parkinson's. Secondly, the emphasis on standing still and strong is just what's needed if like me you have problems with balance. Thirdly, the slowly enacted movements make me feel graceful - a real joy. At the end of a session with Tina Boegner I don't feel tired. I feel energised. And I've found that I can use what I learn in everyday life. I think I'm standing taller, moving more safely than I was.

Tina is a warm and encouraging teacher with a gift for communicating unfamiliar movements. I can't recommend her - and Chi Kung - more highly.'

Having been diagnosed with arthritis in my knee and hips I was advised by my doctor that it was essential to keep as mobile as possible. I had always been interested in tai chi and having discovered Tina's website and read about chi kung decided that this form seemed ideal for me. It has certainly proved so, the discomfort in my joints has been greatly relieved, and I have also discovered a greater sense of inner peace and well being. I have always found all forms of organised exercise boring, but now really look forward to my chi kung sessions and I am sure it will remain a permanent part of my life.

"I have now been enjoying Chi Kong with Tina for almost two years. The benefits were apparent to me from the start, with much more flexibility in all parts of the body and an opportunity to learn to meditate, a skill that has helped through many a stressful day. I cannot recommend the class enough - Tina gives us plenty to think about as well as physical movements to learn." Fran

"I've been going to Tina's classes for over three years now, and they've played a huge part in helping me to recover from M.E. I still go now that I'm better because chi kung is such a great way to relax and to stay fit and strong. The classes are small enough to be really focused, and the atmosphere is great"
    Amanda

"I just love my Saturday early-morning hour-long Chi Kung lesson. It's my hour away from the hamster-wheel of life and it's definitely 'me-time'!!
I really appreciate the opportunity to learn and follow an ancient form of gentle, healing exercise and meditation and Tina has made it so enjoyable right from my first lesson, when I was feeling apprehensive.
She is so warm and welcoming, explaining everything and is very encouraging and supportive, and the hour just flashes by. It's well worth taking a class to see what it's all about and you will love it!"

    Alison

Tina's classes bring great peace into my life - I come out of them hugely refreshed. I wish I could do it more often.

”Having recently been recovering from brain surgery, Tai Chi has helped me improve my strength balance and confidence, I am completely inspired by this method, and my teacher is kind, very helpful and very enthused at all sessions
I just wanted to say how grateful I am and the inner strength that this teaching has brought me.”

    Lorraine

“Chi Kung with you has been for me gentle, refreshing, calming, healing. I appreciate the flexibility of being able to join in the class on an a "pay as I go" basis, which has suited me while I have been recovering. I appreciate the meditative aspect of the class.”
    Tessa

“A nicer location you could not find
in a lovely wood-tiled cosy room
in a friendly church in a glorious square

Tina greets you and you feel immediately at home
she likes what she does and soon you're part of the group

Chi Kung is both relaxing and subtley strenuous
you stretch, you breathe, you bend your knees
you sketch smooth patterns in the air
and gently energise your tired London body

I do it in the mornings
it helps me find my feet and my soul in the morning
it's being good to my body
    and soothing to my spirit
    i love the pace
it's like going into a gallery
    and slowing down

    i leave serene”

    David

"I went along to Tina’s Chi Kung class because a friend had told me that it’s good for musicians. I’d had problems with aching back after playing my viola and thought that I ought to explore it as a way of strengthening my arms. I had a stiff sore neck when I went along to the first session, and realised a few hours later that my neck was comfortable and relaxed and not painful. The aching and stiffness in my legs as I got out of bed in the mornings disappeared, and I was feeling so much better, and overall I think the Chi Kung has done me a lot of good.”
